Note: Unlike most of my posts that are international in scope – this one is focused on a local event. However, the principle applies: Get around experts to get better at what you do. Now… on with the post. -Gina

Last year I attended BarCamp Nashville in order to connect in person with some people that I had previously only met on Twitter or Facebook. Barcamp is sort of an “UnConference” set in a bar instead of a conference center and you get to meet other local bloggers, tech experts and thought leaders. You can find more info on this BarCamp Blog Tour by reading Lynn Terry’s post here: Find a BarCamp Near You.
But how did BarCamp make me a better “Sex Expert?” Well, because it was at BarCamp that I got to meet and interview a certain author who wrote a book that I had admired about intimacy in marriage.
At the time of Barcamp Nashville, the “Sexy” niche was not my main sport. I was happily providing mindset coaching to athletes and other peak performers and I still love that work.
Still, the conversations and the book made me realize that there was a huge need out there that I could fill with a unique voice, perspective, and experience. Hey, what better use of mind/body mastery than in our most intimate performance? I knew this was a place that I could bring healing, so when I left, I was already, a better Sex Expert. What followed was a ton more study and service to those who want a happy love life.
How will Barcamp make you better? Because you can find people you want to learn from and actually meet them in person. You can provide value to them and leave with a bigger vision yourself. Everyone wins! The other people I met there, and the stuff I learned in the sessions helped me get my message out in the months that followed.
If you’ll be at BarCamp Nashville this year, let me know. I’d love to connect.
